What Do Dreams Mean?

I've been in kind of a crummy mood today, and it's all because of a dream I had last night. I woke up this morning, with a start, and thought "I never want to have that dream again."

It was the saddest dream I have ever had, and it has stayed with me all day.

If you're wondering what it was, I'll tell you.

I dreamt I got to have Rat Rat, Halfs and Rat again. But I only got them for the last 2 weeks of their lives, and I got them all at the same time, even though they passed months apart. So, basically, I had to relive the last 2 weeks of their lives all over again, but I had to do all 3 at once and I knew we only had 2 weeks with them. It was the most heartwrenching experience. I hated to see my poor girls go through their illness and old age all over again, and to know exactly what was going to happen.

The weird thing is, Rat Rat got to be healthy until the very end of her life in my dream. In reality, she was slowly getting worse for at least 4 months before she passed. I guess in my mind, she deserved to be healthy longer because in real life she suffered much longer. All of my girls, except Rat Rat, were gone within a couple weeks of starting downhill. She slowly lost the use of her back legs, her muscles atrophied and her fur fell out. Plus, she had 2 tumors that grew and grew up to the end. But she stayed the sweetest, lickiest girl you could ever have.

Anyway, I woke up so saddened and brokenhearted. I hate when I have dreams that real. It was eerie.

And since it's been on my mind all day, I figured I'd share it with you and see if I could put it to rest.

Just 5 Days Ago...

This was Half Rat just 5 days ago. She could stand, walk, eat out of a spoon, etc. She was just a bit stiff and slow.

Now she's having seizures and we're having to feed her with a syringe.

5 days.

Wednesday Fun

Well, it's been an exciting week. J is over his food poisoning now, but last night we opened a tube of ground beef we bought just a few days ago and it smelled like sulfur! *shakes head*

Run, hop, squeak or fly over to Diva Kitty and The Fluffies and take part in the "Secret Paws". It's a great way to spread a little holiday cheer.

Our friend Sham had a sad experience this week. Her little Hobbes went traumatically.

And we're nursing a slow Halfie along. She's not able to walk very well. I say she's "got a hitch in her giddyup." She limps really badly, so I'm sure there's arthritis at work in her little hips. She's lost a lot of weight, so I spend my free time feeding her. She can't eat anything except soft foods, and even then she makes a huge mess, so it's an ordeal. But then she snuggles up to me and it's like she's the happiest rat in the world.

She loves to be out of the cage and snoozin' on the couch next to me while I work online. Last night she was so pathetic I considered making her a nest next to our bed, but I decided it was way warmer in her room.

Poor little rat. I don't know how much longer she's got. She's got a great disposition, but she's at the stage where she just likes to sleep and eats a little. She doesn't like to drink anymore, so I mix pedialyte into her food to help hydrate her.

If you guys have any suggestions how to help my aging girl feel better, please leave them in the comments. And have a wonderful mid-week day.

When Halfie falls onto her back, she can't right herself anymore. It's funny and sad at the same time.

While my sister was here for Thanksgiving, she spent a lot of time cuddling Halfie. They were both happy with the arrangement.

The Great Disaster Of Thanksgiving 2005

It's been an exhausting and frustrating holiday for us.

We went over to my parent's yesterday for the usual turkey obligations, and we were supposed to leave today for the weekend up at J's mom's and more turkey obligations.

Note how I say "supposed?" This will come into play.

Well, we drove around last night looking for an open restaurant to eat dinner at. Upon finding Denny's (evilevilevil) we ate a pretty tasty dinner and headed home to get ready to leave today.

Fate steps in.

Just as we got home, J had to run for the bathroom. And if you haven't guessed where I'm going with this, I'll tell you.

J got food poisoning!

ickickickickickick!

So, we're up all night with him being sick from both ends. I finally get to bed around 5 am and sleep until 9 am, at which time I check on him and see if he feels like going.

He doesn't.

I make the calls and cancel out and the first thing his mom tells me is..."We'll sure miss those enchiladas." (My food contribution.) How funny is that?

So, here we are at home. He's getting better, slowly but surely. Thankfully, he's getting better.

This year I am thankful for:
Him getting sick before we got on the road, and his getting better quickly.

Rat-icure

Tonight I gave Halfie her first pedicure. She's going downhill in a quick way and has stopped trimming her nails herself. She was a very good girl, and didn't put up much of a fuss of all. Unless, of course, you consider the hyperventilating.

She's starting to have balance problems, and can't hold her food sitting up anymore. So I hold it and she eats quite contentedly. She must manage on her own though, cause she's still huge.

She's also having problems walking and tends to drag one foot a bit. I think she's lost a bit of her sensory nerves in that foot. But mostly she walks like it hurts or she's stiff- arthiritis or something. She's not deteriorating really fast, but quick enough to be noticeable. Her fur has gotten the old age "puffiness" to it, where it isn't sleek and shiny anymore.

She still loves to freerange, but falls asleep after about 5-10 minutes. She's still sweet, though. And she loves treats. But more than that, she loves to be cuddled and to sleep. And poor thing, because she's not as fiesty as she used to be, she winds up getting her treats stolen by Rat and Rat Rat. So she gets a lot of "alone" time with mom.

I hate old age. :(

Icky

Well, the weekend started out great. It seems to be ending on a different note.

Both J and I are coming down with colds. bleah... Can you believe it? At the same time! We're like, 30 minutes different in our symptoms. Not looking forward to the coming week, that's for darn sure. Especially going to the gym and huffing and puffing and not being able to get a full lungful of air. *dread*

And Halfie is slowing down. :( I hate watching it. Oh, she can still move if she chooses to, but mostly she's content to snooze and barely move a muscle. I take her out with me and she's not super interested in exploring.

And that's it. Happy Monday all!

It Was Worth It, Though

All the hell yesterday was worth it.

The rat's tails look awesome! They cleared up so quickly and so well. I am relieved...for 2 reasons.

1. It did some real good for them.

2. I don't have to do it again tonight!

Whew!

EWWWWW

WARNING!! DISGUSTING (AND GRAPHIC) POST AHEAD!!

I just spent the better part of 10 minutes each on Half Rat and Rat Rat cleaning GOBS of pus out of their tales.

Ewwwww

It was green! It stunk! They didn't like it and threw rat raisins at me!

Did I care? Nope. I was on a mission. I've noticed over the past 7-10 days that they got these bulbous masses on their tales. They would come and go, get larger then smaller, etc. I figured it was mild infections from being cut and then dragged through the rat-potty.

Tonight, though, I had enough. I started squeezing the biggest lump on Halfie until the plug popped out. Immediately pus came spurting out. (Rat Rat, with only 2 lumps, was less infected, and a better patient too!) I expected pus, but not GREEN pus. I had to do this to 4 different lumps. To say the least, it was a 10 on the "Scale Of Gross" and the foul stench actually upset my stomach!

So, both are now disinfected, irritated and indignant. I am a bit nauseous and grossed- out, so I'm going to bed.
